Cannons roar like thunder.
The current pulls you under.
Captain says to plunder
What people give their lives to have.
And a bomb explodes to ashes,
And everything it smashes
Teeters o'er and crashes,
To fill the graves of common man
They say way makes a man.
I say man makes the war.
Can anybody tell me
What all of this fighting is for?
And if we worked as hard for peace
As we did to win
Then we'd all get what we're shooting for
And we'd never fight again.
But the bullets keep on flying
And the soldiers keep on dying.
And the mother's keep on crying.
Instead of singing lulabies.
And the runners keep on running.
And the gunners keep on gunning.
And both sides and working on overtime,
Citizens everywhere don't even raise and eye.
They say way makes a man.
I say man makes the war.
Can anybody tell me
What all of this fighting is for?
And if we worked as hard for peace
As we did to win
Then we'd all get what we're shooting for
And we'd never fight again.
I believe that any two people in this world can get along if they try.
It takes commitment, dedication, forgiveness, and always a little time.
Do we wonder what we look like to the people on the other side?
Can we look them in the eyes? Can we look them in the eyes?
Can we see behind the lies?
They say way makes a man.
I say man makes the war.
Can anybody tell me
What all of this fighting is for?
And if we worked as hard for peace
As we did to win
Then we'd all get what we're shooting for
And we'd never fight again. |
